[Discussion] private prescription is doing more work than we give it credit for

Discussion Receipts ×8 Well Actually ×3 Cold Box ×1

Quick one. Canada here.

pricing works very differently where I live than in the threads that dominate the front page, and I keep seeing people confidently given advice that simply does not apply outside the US.

Specifics: the route I used took 17 weeks and cost roughly what I expected. The admin was worse than the cost. The thing that would have saved me the most time was knowing which document to ask for at the start.

Happy to answer questions from anyone in the same jurisdiction.

Yeah, the NHS waitlist is genuinely two years in most places.

Spain: 12 month NHS wait, gave up, went private, cost was MHRA monthly.

Half-life is about 168 hours, so steady state lands around week 24–5. Practical consequence: what you feel in week 1 is not what that dose does.

The confident tone is doing a lot of work that the evidence is not.

Counter-anecdote: opposite result, same dose. Which mostly tells us the variance is huge.

Retitled to remove editorialising. Put the evidence in the body.

Edit to your parent would help — the concentration you quoted assumes one scenario and you have written another above it.

Boots stock check: called 12 locations in Germany, 19 had 2.5mg in stock. Regional variation is real.

This is correct. Private and NHS pathways are different.

England or Scotland? Different pathways.

Yes, exactly this, and it is the bit that took me 35 weeks to accept.

  1. No naming online pharmacies that prescribe without a consultation.
  2. Price posts need the date — UK private pricing moves monthly.
  3. NHS pathway questions: say which nation. England, Scotland, Wales and NI differ.
  4. Independent community. Nobody here sells anything, and anyone who tries is banned.
  5. Not medical advice. Describe what you did; never prescribe to a stranger.
  6. Claims need evidence. Batch numbers, dated screenshots, independent test reports, or a citation.
  7. No referral links, discount codes or affiliate URLs. Permanent ban, no appeal.
  8. No contact handles, wallet addresses or tracking numbers — they identify people.
