Weight is noisy. A 7-day rolling average is the only line worth looking at.

7-day rolling average or you will quit at week 8 like everybody else. the daily number is noise wearing a costume.
comment on going up faster doesn’t get you there faster, it just gets you sicker faster in c/tirzepatide · 51 points · 2 days ago
the scale is noisy day to day, water/sodium/hormones/everything. a 7-day rolling average is the only line worth reacting to and four weeks of that flat is a genuinely different signal than four weeks of raw numbers flat.
comment on [Update] month 9 of maintenance, the boring table nobody asks to see but everyone should keep in c/dosinglogs · 51 points · 2 days ago
a 7-day rolling average through the holidays would probably show even less movement than the monthly snapshot table suggests, worth checking if you kept the daily numbers
comment on nobody warned me about the identity gap once the thing that organized your life for a year is just... gone in c/maintenancephase · 34 points · 3 days ago
the tracking itself was probably part of the "project" feeling for a lot of us, not just the weight loss, so of course it feels like a loss when the tracking winds down too
comment on [PSA] the escalation schedule everyone quotes is a floor, not a finish line in c/semaglutide · 39 points · 3 days ago
because the scale is noisy week to week and slow titration makes the noise louder relative to the trend. a 7-day average fixes most of that panic.
comment on is the "week 4 wall" a real physiological thing or just when people start actually weighing themselves properly in c/tirzepatide · 118 points · 3 days ago
the measurement-artifact piece is underrated though. week 1-3 people are riding novelty and adrenaline and often not weighing carefully. week 4 the novelty wears off, they start weighing daily and obsessively, and daily noise looks like a wall purely because they're finally looking closely enough to see it.
comment on [Log] eight weeks in, here’s the actual schedule and what each step felt like in c/tirzepatide · 18 points · 4 days ago
would love to see this as a rolling-average chart once you're further in, raw weekly numbers on a titration log tend to hide the trend under the noise
comment on [Delay] two weeks in a transit hub, then delivered fine in c/intlshipping · 45 points · 4 days ago
Disagree. What you are describing is consistent with DHL, not with what you concluded.
comment on scale hasn’t moved in nine days, week 4, am I stalling already in c/semaglutide · 33 points · 4 days ago
this is like 80% of "why did I stall" threads honestly, wrong number, not wrong body
comment on went up a dose over a stall that turned out to be dehydration, learned an expensive lesson in c/maintenancephase · 62 points · 4 days ago
and it's exactly the kind of thing a 7-day rolling average partly smooths but doesn't fully remove, hydration shifts can persist for a week or more once someone actually starts drinking properly
comment on six weeks flat at my top dose, is going up even an option at this point or just a bad idea in c/maintenancephase · 24 points · 4 days ago
seconding the rolling-average point, six weeks flat on that specific measure is a genuinely different claim than six weeks flat on raw daily numbers, good that you specified which one
comment on i stopped eating at 70% full and the vomiting stopped entirely in c/sideeffects · 15 points · 4 days ago
I am going to push back on this slightly.
comment on scale hasn’t moved in nine days, week 4, am I stalling already in c/semaglutide · 189 points · 5 days ago
daily weight is dominated by water, sodium, hormones, bowel contents, and approximately none of that is fat loss signal. plot a 7-day rolling average instead of raw numbers and this "stall" mostly disappears visually.
comment on tapered slowly over four months instead of stopping cold, regain was 4kg not 24 in c/maintenancephase · 58 points · 5 days ago
the ratio really is the whole story here, 4kg means something completely different depending on whether the starting loss was 10kg or 40kg
comment on [PSA] how to actually tell noise from a real plateau instead of guessing in c/semaglutide · 121 points · 6 days ago
that's basically why I wrote it, this exact question three times a week for a month straight
comment on almost quit at week 4 because "it stopped working", so glad I didn’t in c/progresspics · 52 points · 7 days ago
and probably worth saying: nothing "started working again", it likely never stopped, the rolling average almost certainly kept ticking down under the flat raw numbers
comment on the mean transit time is useless, the 90th percentile is what melts your pack in c/intlshipping · 85 points · 8 days ago
Disagree. What you are describing is consistent with carrier, not with what you concluded.
comment on the week 8 version of this is different from the week 4 wall and I don’t think enough people separate them in c/maintenancephase · 91 points · 8 days ago
the rolling-average method still applies at week 8, it just takes a longer flat window before you call it, because by then some of the earlier noise sources (novelty weighing, initial water shifts) have settled and the signal is cleaner
comment on [Results] nine months, one boring spreadsheet, and three fake "stalls" that weren’t in c/progresspics · 41 points · 10 days ago
the threshold (rolling avg flat 3+ weeks) isn't arbitrary though, it's roughly matched to how long it takes water/sodium noise to average out. it's not built to always say noise, it's just that most short stalls genuinely are noise, which is the actual point being made across all these threads.

this table is basically the empirical proof of the thing I keep saying in every one of these threads. thank you for actually doing it with real numbers instead of me just asserting it.
