someone explain discontinuation to me like I have not read a paper in years

Regainbranch of 14 comments

someone explain discontinuation to me like I have not read a paper in years, and I want the answer with the reasoning attached rather than just the conclusion. Appetite is the proximal effect and weight is the lagging integrated outcome, which is why watching appetite gives you an earlier and more honest signal.…

There is very little published guidance on stopping specifically, which is exactly why board consensus here should carry less weight than usual and a clinician conversation should carry more.

Edited a comment framing regain as a moral failure. The documented outcome is not a character verdict.

Edited a comment framing regain as a moral failure.

This is the sentence that reframes the whole board. Appetite first, scale later.

Have you had the conversation with a clinician yet?

Stretching the interval or reducing the dose?

About c/tapering

Stopping on purpose: dose reduction versus interval stretching, what the discontinuation arms of STEP 1 and SURMOUNT-4 actually showed about regain, appetite return timelines, and the people who came off, regained, and went back on without treating it as a failure.

c/tapering rules
  1. Cite the discontinuation data rather than guessing at regain rates.
  2. No shaming people who restart.
  3. Say how long you were on and at what dose before you tapered.
  4. Independent community. Nobody here sells anything, and anyone who tries is banned.
  5. Not medical advice. Describe what you did; never prescribe to a stranger.
  6. Claims need evidence. Batch numbers, dated screenshots, independent test reports, or a citation.
  7. No referral links, discount codes or affiliate URLs. Permanent ban, no appeal.
  8. No contact handles, wallet addresses or tracking numbers — they identify people.
  9. Be recognisably decent. Disagree hard, insult nobody.
