[Discussion] resistance training changes what "stall" should even mean on the scale
Three full-body sessions a week through my entire cut, and I think the standard "stall = bad" framing genuinely doesn't apply the same way once you're lifting seriously. A flat scale while lifting can mean the exact opposite of what it means for someone doing zero resistance training.

strongly agree, posted my own recomp DEXA data recently and the scale was nearly frozen the entire time fat mass was actively dropping. "stall" as a word assumes the scale is measuring one thing, and once you're lifting it's measuring at least two things pulling in opposite directions.

this is why I track FFMI now instead of just weight during any flat stretch, it's the number that actually distinguishes "recomping fine" from "actually stalled" from "losing the wrong tissue".
and the "losing the wrong tissue" case is the one that gets underfunded research-wise, lean mass loss risk on these drugs is a real open question and the scale alone will never flag it
agreed it's under-studied relative to how much it matters, SURMOUNT-1 reported total body weight change, not composition, and I think that's true of most of the phase 3 program generally, which is exactly the gap this whole thread is pointing at
protein target scales with the training too, obviously, 1.6g/kg is closer to a floor than a ceiling once you're actually lifting seriously through a deficit.

steps matter here too but differently, NEAT can drop when someone's more fatigued from lifting sessions, worth checking that isn't quietly offsetting the training benefit
counterpoint, most people asking "why did I stall" are not lifting three times a week seriously, this reframe is genuinely useful for a minority and less relevant for the median poster
fair, this post is squarely aimed at the subset who are training seriously, not a universal explanation for every stall thread
would add creatine loading water weight as another wrinkle for anyone who just started supplementing mid-cut, can look like a tiny "stall" or even a small bump for entirely separate reasons
