0.7 points apart on the headline number, which is inside inter-lab variance and would mean nothing on its own. The impurity profile is the interesting part: twice as many peaks above 0.1% and a largest impurity more than double.
Draw your own conclusions about the middle of the supply chain. Mine is boring: handling and repackaging cost you something small and measurable, and it does not show up in the number everyone quotes.

For anyone reading who is about to say "0.7 points is nothing": correct, and irrelevant. The author explicitly says so. The claim is about peak count and largest single impurity, which are different measurements that happen to appear on the same trace.
the largest-single-impurity number is criminally under-reported. a 98.6% that is one 1.2% impurity is a different molecule situation to a 98.6% spread across eight small peaks.
yes and neither of those two vials is the bad case. i have seen a 97.9% that was basically one enormous shoulder and that one worried me a lot more than a 96 with a clean profile.
a shoulder that big is usually a des-amido form or an epimer and the integration decision on where to cut it changes your number by half a point on its own.
which is the actual source of most inter-lab disagreement, not instrument quality. two analysts drawing the baseline differently on the same trace.
i would love to see a round-robin on this. one trace, twenty people integrating it, publish the spread.
Post the raw trace and I will organise it. That would be a genuinely useful piece of community work.
GL Biochem being a real manufacturer with checkable certifications rather than a shop is relevant context. their batch COA arrives without being asked, which puts them in a small group.
i tried to order from them like a normal person and got quietly overwhelmed by the paperwork. entirely my fault for treating a manufacturer like a shop.
this matches what i found on a different compound in 2025 — raw material 0.7 higher than a reseller vial of the same nominal batch. edit: same delta, different compound, which is either a coincidence or a pattern and two points cannot tell you which.
